Sources and methodology
Where the facts come from
I use primary sources first. The main ones:
- The National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing (OIF): residence permit for guest investor, guest investor visa, frequently asked questions and procedural fees; the Enter Hungary portal.
- The Hungarian Government on the draft wealth tax: announcement of 10 October 2026 and consultation report of 20 October 2026.
- Regulation (EU) No 833/2014 on sanctions and the Schengen Borders Code for the 90/180 rule.
- Practice notes and data published by BRIDGES: the Hungary programme page, the Hungary country page, and articles on the golden visa, residence versus citizenship, permanent residence, family reunification, taxes, naturalisation, Hungary, Greece and Portugal, Russian citizens, the White Card and self-employment.
How I check and date information
- Each article shows an "Updated" date. It changes only when the facts are reviewed.
- Amounts and fees are quoted as OIF publishes them, and figures from BRIDGES are labelled as such.
- Where sources differ, I show both. Examples: processing time (21 days at OIF, 4 to 6 weeks, 4 to 6 months or about 6 months at BRIDGES), the start of the 3-month investment window (visa issue at OIF, first entry at BRIDGES), the Portuguese threshold (EUR 200,000 or EUR 500,000) and the wealth tax (none in the BRIDGES June article, a government draft in October).
- Information I could not confirm in official sources, such as the family composition, the 70-day family decision, the permanent residence and naturalisation terms, the sanctions reading for Russian citizens and the status of the wealth tax, is marked in the text.
How often the guides are updated
All articles are reviewed at least once a quarter, and immediately after the rules change. I watch three topics most closely: the fund rules, the wealth tax and processing times.
